Jurong Bird Park
Jurong Bird Park, located on 20 hectares of lush greenery in Singapore's model
industrial estate, is home to over 8,000 birds from more than 600 species. Take a
ride on the air-conditioned Panorail for a panoramic view of the Park and into
a tropical world of jungle mists at the Waterfall Aviary. Enjoy the spectacular
Penguin Exhibit with an underwater viewing gallery and do not miss the All-Star Bird Show, reputed as world-class.
The spectacular Parrot Paradise was opened as one of the highlights of the Park's
25th anniversary celebrations. The Parrot Paradise, a one-hectare exhibit showcases
more than 500 parrots from 110 species. It was built at a cost of $2.5 million.
These parrots were formerly scattered around the Park in individual aviaries.
This new exhibit was conceived from the idea of housing them into one comprehensive exhibit for the convenience of the visitors.
The 32 aviaries were designed to simulate as closely as possible the parrots' natural
habitats with the help of beautiful hand-painted murals, as well as the natural
vegetation. These habitats include tropical rainforest, grasslands, semi-desserts, riverbanks, or rocky cliffs.
Although parrots are typically long-lived and can live up to 50 years in captivity,
many species have become extinct or are in danger of doing so. This is the reason why
special provisions have been made to encourage the breeding of parrots in captivity
at the Parrot Paradise. So far, the Park has successfully bred 50 different species of the parrots in its collection.
